Friday game 31.10.
All the Friday games during this autumn season have been very even so was this one. White team was in the end slightly stronger and took the trophy home with the score 6-4. In the defense of the black team it must be stated that white team was helped by ex-Cheltenham goalie Tarlochan who scored 2 goals for the Whites. Tarlochan spent a week in Helsinki visiting local schools trying to find out why Finns are doing so well in PISA surveys. Tarlochan enjoyed playing with Nerds and wanted to say thanks to everybody for the warm welcome and once in a lifetime opportunity to play with the Nerds.

Copa Kirkkonummi 12.10.08 by Peter
Howdy, we were taken for a ride in Kirkkonummi by young aces. Our opponents in all teams were at least 10 years younger and had 4-5 substitutes per team. We had one substitute and were given a pukuhuone with the kyltti "Naiset".
TisU - FC Nerds 3-2... Pretty even game, we came back from 3-0 but time ran out on us in the end.
FC Nerds -Puikot United 1-7... We attacked "Coat open" and forgot to defend. Silly game.
Maski - FC Nerds 8-1... This game we actually played pretty well, but Maski was a tough, well-ordered team. They even warmed up in unison like a swat team.
Our scorers, if I remember right: Mikko H (2), Magnus, Kaitsu. Lasu played well in the goal in overwhelming circumstances.
The weather was nice and we had great pizzas at "Suvanto".

Kirkkonummi Cup 2008
Nostattava päätös ulkokauden kilpapeleille.
Kirkkonummi Cup, legendaarinen puulaakipotkupalloturnaus, 6.9.2008.
Nörtit lähtevät turnaukseen kahdeksalla pelaajalla, ilman maalivahtia. mutta maalivahdin hanskat on.

1. FC Nerds - FC-95 United 2 - 2
Tämän pelin alku on karseimpia koskaan pelaamistamme.
Mikko (H.) aloittaa maalissa. Vastustajat eivät näytä painajaismaisen pelottavilta. He eivät ole nuoria, valtavan nopeita tai poikkeuksellisen taitavia eivätkä edes pelaa rumasti. He eivät ole kuulemma ikinä voittaneet yhtään peliä tässä turnauksessa. Mutta menevät johtoon sutaisemalla pallon sisään puolustuksemme keskeltä. Vastustajat riemuitsevat: "Ekaa kertaa ikinä johdossa!". 0-1. Pari minuuttia myöhemmin jatkamme vaikeammalla kuviolla. Ryysis puulaakipallon "kuudentoista" rajalla. Vastustaja potkaisee, pallo osuu Lasuun ja muuttaa suuntaa vasemmalle, sitten se osuu reiteeni ja muuttaa suuntaa takaisin oikealle. Mikko on voimaton ensimmäisen reidellä tekemäni maalin edessä. Kannattaa aina sijoittaa siihen kulmaan, josta veskari on liikkumassa pois. 0-2. Peliä on pelattu viisi minuuttia. Seuraavina minuutteina emme paranevasta yrityksestä huolimatta onnistu antamaan lisää lahjamaaleja. Isku päästää Mikon maalista kentälle. Todistajanlausunto ensimmäisen maalimme synnystä: "Mikko K aikansa pyörittyään kulmassa syötti Mikko H:lle joka tykitti (kerrankin harkitusti) upean ulkokierteisen vedon ohi maalivahdin alas keskelle." Ansaittu 1-2 kavennus. Vaihdot eivät pyöri. Jotkut eivät muista käydä vaihdossa kertaakaan pelin aikana. Se alkaa tuntua jaloissa. Mikko (K.) tulee taas väkisin vasemmalta laidalta ja saa syötettyä vastaantulevan veskarin ohi maalin eteen, missä Shabbir ja minä päivystämme. Shabbir voisi tehdä helpon maalin, mutta tahtoo antaa minulle mahdollisuuden kuitata aiemman oman maalini ja antaa pallon vieriä. Matkaa tyhjään maaliin on n. 70 senttiä, tärisevä vasuri yskähtää. Teen jo toisen maalin vartalonosalla jonka en tiennyt olevan olemassakaan. 2-2. Loppupeli on sekavaa sähläämistä. Vastustaja on lähempänä maalia, mutta tauolla muistelemme vain onnistunutta nousua tasoihin.
2. FC Nerds - Fenerbahce 3 - 0
Tilastoharvinaisuus. Luultavasti kauden ainoa peli, jossa emme sählänneet tyttömäisesti.
Ennen pelin alkua vastustaja näyttää pelottavan vaaralliselta. Pelaajat ovat kookkaita ja urheilullisia. Ja joukkueen nimi Fenerbahce. Tavoitteeksi alkaa kirkastua kunniakas häviö, vaikkapa jotain 0-4. Toivottavasti maalivahtina aloittava Lasu jaksaa poimia pallot verkon perukoilta selkäänsä satuttamatta. Mutta mitä tapahtuu? Nörtti alkaa juosta. Pienet kitukasvuiset (ja muutamat ylipainoiset) oranssipaidat karvaavat kuin miehet. Ja saavat pallon pois. Mitä ihmettä!? Muutama syöttö menee jopa omille. Toisinaan pallot saadaan haltuun. Ja syötettyä taas omille. Mitä niissä Kirkkonummen torilla syödyissä munkeissa oikein oli? Epäusko tämän aika-avaruuden olemassaoloon voimistuu kun Teemu sijoittaa pallon vastustajan maaliin. Viileästi. Hallitusti. Ohi veskarin. Kun juoksemme takaisin aloitusasemiin kaikilla on vain yksi ajatus päässä: miksi en ole taydellisessä paniikissa? Shabbir saa aktiivisella liikkeellään vastustajat näyttämään jopa varovaisilta ja kömpelöiltä. Tilanne on 2-0 kun hän saa pallon keskellä hyökkäysaluetta ja purjehtii vetosektorille ja sijoittaa hallitusti vasempaan nurkkaan. Tässä vaiheessa meillä olisi sovittu veskarin vaihdon paikka, mutta Lasu on pelannut niin varmasti että päättää onneksi jatkaa tolppien välissä. Hetkeä myöhemmin puramme onnistuneesti omalta alueelta, Teemu viilettää perään ja ottaa pelivälineen mukaansa matkalle kohti kolmatta maalia. Laukaisukulma on mahdottomalta vaikuttavan pieni, aivan päätyrajan vieressä, mutta pallo tärähtää takatolpan juureen. 3-0. Peli pelataan loppuun asti hyvin, tsemppi säilyy ja vastustaja saa vain yhden puolikkaan paikan. Jatkopaikka varmistettu.
Alkulohkon yksi joukkue ei ilmesty paikalle, joten nörtit voittavat kolmen joukkueen lohkon. Ensimmäisen jatkopelin alkuun on 2 tuntia 45 minuuttia. Kuluu paljon makkaraa ja banaaneja ja limppaa.
3. FC Nerds - EKK 0 - 1
Siinä mielessä normaali peli, että tässäkin onnistuimme sähläämään, vaikkakin vain kerran.
Peli oli alusta melko tasaista vääntöä. Vastustaja pelasi järkevästi, ilman päätöntä säntäilyä. Hyvännäköistä peliä. Ehkä he ovat harjoitelleet? Mutta tilanne ei näyttänyt toivottomalta. Kunnes koitti tavanomainen tähtihetkemme. Neljä oranssipaitaa oli majoittunut omalle maalialueelle tutkimaan pallon purkamisen problematiikkaa. Asiaa pohdittiin suunnasta jos toisesta, väitteitä ja teorioita esitettiin. Palloa siirreltiin taitavasti kokoajan lähemmäksi Lasun vartioimaa maalia. Mutta ei purettu. Paikalle osunut vastustaja ei ollut teorioista kiinnostunut vaan tuikkasi maalin. 0-1. Me osaamme tämän, tiedämme miten menetellä kun annamme vastustajalle lahjamaalin. Panikoidaan ja annetaan niitä lisää. Siis normaalisti. Mutta ei tänään. Nörtit muistivat miten edellisessä pelissä juostiin ja karvattiin. Tämä matsi ei koskaan siirtynyt varsinaisesti meidän haltuun, mutta tilanteita alkoi syntyä. Itse pääsi vetämään volleyn joka osui hyvin, meni maalia kohti, ei maalivahtia päin, mutta veskari nappasi sen zebardimaisella loikalla. Shabbir pääsi kokeilemaan paikasta, jossa veskari oli jo pelattu ulos, ainoastaan puolustaja seisoi maalissa, mutta Kirkkonummen petolliset tuulet veivät pallon taivaalle. Ainoastaan Teemu sai pallon veskarin selän taakse. Teemu ryntää pallon kanssa maalille, veskari syöksyy vastaan, Teemu tuikkaa pallon kainalon alta. Pallo vierii hitaasti (nyt se tulee...) tolppaan ja kimpoaa vierimään maaliviivaa pitkin (menee, menee...) toiseen tolppaan ja (siitä sisään...) pullahtaa ulos maalista. Vastustajan maalivahti oli loistava, varmaan paras koskaan Kirkkonummella pelannut. Paras Etelä-Suomessa koskaan pelannut. "Oli teillä paikkoja." Sitä sai kuulla saunassa illalla moneltakin peliä katsoneelta. Olihan niitä muutama.
Kaiken kaikkiaan voimme olla varovaisen tyytyväisiä: joukkue nosti pelitasoa selvästi ensimmäisen pelin onnettoman alun jälkeen. Jatkossa tsemppasimme hyvin ja loimme/saimme maalintekopaikkoja selkeästi enemmän kuin vastustajat. Vielä kun osuttaisi. Kauden parasta ulkopeliä kuitenkin.

Harrasteliiga 2008
Harrasteliiga anno domini 2008 on päättynyt, olkaamme helpottuneita. FC Nerds oli omassa lohkossaan toiseksi viimeinen, jättäen taaksensa ainoastaan Sad but truen. Vuonna 2004 kun liigataival alkoi, oli kaikki toisin. Silloin lohkovoittaja oli Sad but true ja toinen FC Nerds. Näin asiat kääntyvät päälaelleen ja kierivät toistensa ympäri, vaatien jatkuvaa näkökulman muutosta valppaalta sivustakatsojalta. Ensi vuonna kaikki saattaa olla taas eri tavalla.
Viimeisen pelin jälkeen, 0-1 AC Patterille, monivuotinen luottoveskarimme Janne löi hanskat tiskiin. Kilpapelit ovat hänen osaltaan ohi, kuulemma. Jatkossa täytyy siis löytää uusi maalivahti, mutta löytyykö Jannen kaltaista liimanäppiä ja puolustuksen maestroa?
Onnistuimme voittamaan yhden pelin, 5-3 Hopelessia vastaan Talin hallissa. Hallissa nörtti on näköjään parhaimmillaan, tänä kautena puolet tehdyistä maaleista on syntynyt Talin pehmeällä keinonurmella. Voittomme Hopelessia vastaan johtui pitkälti siitä, että he aloittivat ottelun vajaamiehisinä. Onneksi johdimme jo 5-0 kun Hopeless sai rivit täyteen ja vaihtomiehiä kentän laidalle. Silti arvokas ja ansaittu voitto.
Muuten mennyt kausi toi mukanaan rökäletappiot. Kaikki jatkoonmenijät runttasivat tilastoihin rumia lukemia, Partizani Kalliota (1-2) lukuun ottamatta. Sparta Brahen hämmästyttävät ja kovat akrobaatit hakkasivat meidät 0-7, PH-99 iski miehistöllä 1+5 loppuluvuiksi 1-6 ja Mistä Näistä Tietää voitti numeroin 2-5. Eipä ole aikaisempina kausina tällaisia tuloksia tullut. Jos liigaseikkailu jatkuu ensi vuonna, pudottaudumme suosiolla mestaritasolta divarille, eikö niin?

Not even close
Yesterday FC Nerds was beaten by the biggest numbers ever in our league history. A team called Mistä Näistä Tietää (MNT) showed us how to play effective and forceful amateur football, crushing us with 5 goals to 2. There is no explanation, they were better than us in just every department.
It all started with a half of horrors as MNT managed to break through our defences time after time, scoring with powerful, well aimed shots that Häyskä in the goal couldn't possible reach. We were outplayed and paralysed, unable to turn things around. Our passes were intercepted, their passes found empty spaces for men to run into to.
At half time we were 0-4 down and there was no pressure on us anymore. We would lose anyway, so why not try to have some fun? Too bad we didn't think of this earlier, because this attitude eventually led to two goals and some brief hope for a miraculous come-back.
I personally had the pleasure to be served twice with beautiful passes that I somehow managed to forward into the net. First Mikko K was making one of his trade mark runs on the left, sprinting deep behind the enemy lines and ending up close to the goal post, from where he made the perfect pass straight to my foot. I tried to keep it low and the goal keeper was beaten. The next goal was set up by Tommi, who beautifully passed the ball through the defenders to an empty spot that I managed to reach first. The goal keeper rushed out but the right corner was unguarded, and that's where my shot ended with some good luck.
But that was when we ran out of luck, and soon after MNT finished the game with their fifth goal. Three games played, one point earned. It couldn't have started much worse.

Just about hanging there
Sad but true has proven to be a tough nut for us to crack. We've met them twice before in the amateur league. Twice before we've shared points. We had a good chance to turn things around yesterday, but we were lucky to get any points at all.
On the first half we played good. Occasionally we were great. The players were confident. We held the ball and created good chances on the midfield. Konala pitch was more like a potato field, but it didn't stop us from controlling the flow of the game.
Somewhere in the middle of the half we got a free kick close the opponent box. The ball was played to Mikko H. who banged a low curly shot into the net. The game was 1-0. For a moment I thought it was in the bag for us.
Second half was a different game. Suddenly we were on the receiving end. Our passes didn't find their targets. Our forward runs stopped all together. Even our stone wall defense started to crumble. Then the inevitable happened, twice. Two bad mistakes on our box gave them good 2-1 lead.
Lucky for us they got hungry for more. There was a big hassle in front of our goal. Häyskä got his hands to the ball and gave me a perfect pass. I started a long run through the empty pitch. Mikko K's accurate one two pass [edit 22.5. Mikko just told me he didn't pass it. It was defleced from the defender] found my left foot and ball ended up in the low corner.
That goal gave us a boost that might have helped us to scoring third. Unlucky for us the time run out soon after. Maybe next time. We will meet again, Sad but true!

FC Nerds ry kevätkokous pöytäkirja
FC-NERDS ry sääntömääräinen kevätkokous 25.4.2008
Puheenjohtaja (pj) avaa kokouksen.
Kokous on virallisesti kokoonkutsuttu ja päätösvaltainen.
Kokouksen sihteeriksi valitiin Jari Ingerttilä ja ääntenlaskijaksi Aarne Juutilainen sekä pöytäkirjantarkastajiksi Mikko Kautto ja Peter Sandelin.
Yhdistyksen tilillä on tällä hetkellä €1209,47.
Sovittiin, että Jari lähettää Jannelle talvikauden osallistujataulukon.
Yhdistyksen jäseniä kehoitetaan ystävällisesti maksamaan yhdistyksen vuosittainen jäsenmaksu (€5).
FC-Nerds on ilmoittautunut jälleen Palloliiton Helsingin piirin harrasteliigaan. Ensimmäinen peli on torstaina 8.5.
Seura on varannut maksullisen pelivuoron Käpylän hiekkakentältä. Pelivuoro on torstaisin kello 18:00 alkaen. Koko ulkokauden hinnaksi tulee 16x20€ eli 320€.
Äänestyksen perusteella yhdistyksen hallitukselle myönnetään vastuuvapaus edellisen tilikauden tilien suhteen.
Päätettiin että Kai Lappalainen jatkaa yhdistyksen rahastonhoitajana.
Hallituksen jäseniksi valittiin Tommi Mutikainen, Janne Tuominen ja Magnus Scharmanoff
Pj esitteli maksuvaihtoehtoja ulkovuoron ja harrasteliigan suhteen: a) FC Nerds kesäkolli 20€ (kattaa koko kesän ulkovuorot) b) Harrastenörtti 40€ kattaa harrasteliigan c) Keväthormoonipiikki 10€ osallistuminen Kevät Cupiin.
Janne ehdotti että ottaisimme harrasteliigaan mukaan Tommin tunteman 4-divaritason maalivahdin. Ehdotus sai kannatusta ja sovittiin, että hallitus päättää miten maalivahdin kohdalla hoidetaan pelimaksu.
Vieras mies käveli pöytämme sivu ja toivotti hyviä pyhiä.

Amateur League Starts with Defeat
Partizani Kallio - FC Nerds 2-1
The start of the league wasn't the best possible, but there were moments when we didn't play that bad. Partizani Kallio worked better as a team. We have met tougher guys, but the strength of this team was that all players were quite confident with the ball and on the same skill level.
A couple of mistakes in the beginning led to 2 quick goals that Janne had no chance of catching, though he got his hand on one of the balls. Slowly we were able to build something of our own, and Kai managed to get us one back with a precise and hard shot in the left corner of the goal.
After half time Partizani backed off while we pushed on, but getting behind their lines remained hard. There were no real one-on-one chance, which serves as a proof of a well organized defence. Our defence - hmm, it wasn't that organized, but there were great solo efforts and good fighting spirit.
All in all, we could have done better. But also a whole lot worse. Let's rise to the next level next week!

The Truth about SpringCup
It was a cold and windy winter's day with the occasional bursts of wet snow filling the air. Only a true optimist and the heartless byrocrats of the football association would call a day like this "spring". None the less, seven brave men were heading for the warmth and comfort of Tali football hall, only to be turned away at the door, forced to change to shorts in an unheated shack, and play outdoors on a hard and bouncy sand pitch. The true nature of SpringCup had just been revealed.
We faced a team of younger and faster blokes, calling themselves Sammuneet Tähdet (The Faded Stars). But despite their bigger numbers, and the somewhat random and quick alternations of the game, victory was within reach from the first blow of the whistle.
Five minutes into the game Teemu had already struck twice and we were heading for an easy win. Up front Teemu was being served with good passes from Tommi in the middle, while Peter was charging on the left. Mikko K, Jari I and Lasu formed an unbreakable block in defence. And in goal Mikko H grabbed every shot that got that far. Until something shifted the balance and our opponents were able to level the game. Suddenly the scoreboard said 2-2 with just a minute left of the first half.
The ball was bouncing alarmingly close to our goal. Somebody lifted it, but the cross was too long and sailed away to safety. But then a hand, attached to Mikko K:s body, was streched into the air and made contact with the ball. The referee blew his whistle and a wall was built, but the free kick went in. From 2-0 to 2-3 in just 20 minutes. After the break the Nerds decided to help the other team further, and with five minutes played, the Fading Stars were shining still more brightly, going to a 2-4 lead.
But we still had Teemu. Teemu who flew past the defenders and completed his hat trick with his 3-4 goal. Teemu, who one minute later was brought down inside the box, resulting in a penalty that Tommi reliably placed behind the keeper. Teemu who got hold of Mikko K:s pass from the left and forcefully worked it into the back of the net, using his whole body, raising our team from defeat to glory. Not a beautiful win, but an important one. 5-4 and all looked well.
For our next game the sky had cleared and the birds were welcoming the new season of the year. Maybe it was spring itself, maybe it was the hormones, anyway the word of the day was confusion. Confusion from the very start of the day, with a sudden change of pitch. Confusion about who would play, what position to play, how to play, what lines to trust on that confusingly hard artificial grass, filled with too many lines of different colours. Even confusion when trying to score: on the other end three goals were standing beside each other, which was the one that counted?
We were facing IFK Honey Bunnies and they surely knew how to jump away and around our sphere of confusion. Bunnies usally come in big numbers and so did they, with eager substitutes in the many. As a novelty from the first game we also had 3 subs, but this only added to the disorder. There was a moment when Teemu decided to play in the defence, although he is our sharpest striker. Our goal keeper was changed in half time, from Mikko H to Jari I, but that didn't help either.
The closest to victory we got was when Teemu levelled the game to 1-1 after 14 minutes played. But on the whole the opportunity slipped through our hands and our fightback was never strong or quick enough. The end result 3-5 leaves no place for speculation.
But there were good moments too. The Nerds took excellent advantage of every special situation. All goals were the result of smartly played free kicks. Kai took the kicks in great style, passing the ball to the side, which either lead to another nice pass and a goal (14 minutes 1-1 Kai-Lasu-Teemu-GOAL) or a direct kick into the net (26 mins 2-3 Kai-Tommi-GOAL) and (37 mins 3-4 Kai-Peter-GOAL). Kai also tried a hard and well placed direct shot once, but the keeper got his hand on the ball.
All in all, we lost to a better team. Our players were Mikko H, Tommi, Peter, Kai, Jari I, Teemu, Lasu, Mikko K, Bijay and Rajesh. We came second in our group. The winner IFK Honey Bunnies lost their first game in the final cup (3-5 vs Torpedo).

FC Colocolo - FC Nerds 1-2 (1-0)
Yet another game against our already traditional opponent, FC Colocolo. Are we already familiar with the bigger pitch? At least we played better, found our teammates and could create some scoring opportunities. The game was good on both sides, yet the first half ended with a nice long pass and run by Colocolo forward who netted in 1-0 just before the half time whistle.
Overall, our defence played a strong game. Timo, Jari, Mikko H and Rajesh did not leave room for the opponents and cleared the balls with amazing accuracy. In the midfield, Tommi and Suleiman worked hard. Mikko K tried to arrange attacks from the left and Peter fought on the right. Teemu and Dipak were our forwards this time.
Our first goal started from an attack from the left. A pass found Teemu who pushed strongly in the box, waited for the goalkeeper to move out of the goal and passed the ball in the middle of the goal where Peter had the nice job to kick the ball in. A little later, their goalkeeper made a strategic mistake handling the ball on the wrong side of the 16m line. A freekick for the Nerds. After a few ideas on how to handle this golden opportunity, Tommi shot the ball in through the wall: 1-2.
Overall, our defence played a strong game. Timo, Jari, Mikko H and Rajesh did not leave room for the opponents and cleared the balls with amazing accuracy. Another Colocolo
A second game within a week!
This time we had a full team, a goalkeeper and even substitutes.
Still the game was far from easy. Playing mostly inside we are not used to to play in such a wide and long pitch. The ball is also bouncing here and there. Fellow teammates are usually far away, and if you manage to get the ball, they will be running fast but further away from you, usually towards the opponent's goal. Passes were far from easy, this is not Arsenal playing. It seems to be a real success to get three clean passes in a row. Not to speak of changes that are incredibly difficult to manage. We had a plan concerning 4-4-2 defence, midfield and attack, but the last 10-15 minutes it seemed we played an innovative 3-2-2-3 tactics. For last changes you had to guess where to settle in the field.
Yet we managed to score a few this time, and let in less. With better luck/skills, we could have scored even more. The game ended 3-2 (2-1) for the Nerds. A rough byt rather close guess of statistics from this game looks like this:

We lost the game yesterday. We played against Colocolo's nr 1 team, who is trying for the 5th division this year. They have strengthened their team since summer with a fast left wing and a Finnish playmaker in the midfield, plus a goalkeeper from FC Honka A-juniors. It was nice to play, though we did not have a real chance this time.
Interestingly, their nr 2 team would like to play against us this coming sunday, the 13th, at the same time 20.30. This Colocolo nr 2 team plays in the 7th division.
